Burning Belly Fat

If burning belly fat is your goal, you're going to have make a commitment to yourself. No whining, no excuses - simply infuse your lifestyle with healthier foods, healthier habits, and a long-term plan for success. If you've let your belly fat accumulate over the years, it is unfair to expect to drop it all at once with some miracle cure - unless of course you decide on liposuction or 'the wrap'- and even so, you'll need to keep the weight off after you burn it, no matter what method you choose.

Most people know that increased belly fat has been linked to health problems in other areas, particularly cardiovascular problems. Most people also know that they need to do the work if they want to be burning fat. Some will try supplements like Hoodia, a powerful appetite suppressant. But eating less alone will not get the results you desire.

Exercise: Sorry, there's no way around it. Studies have shown that the higher-impact the workout, the more fat you will be burning. Even crunches and sit-ups won't help you if you that's all you are doing. As belly fat can be quite stubborn, you are going to have to reduce your overall percentage of body fat before you see results. If you are overweight and thus unable to do a high-impact workout, begin with walking or swimming regularly and build yourself up. 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise is considered the baseline, and longer, more strenuous workouts are recommended.

Age and metabolism: The older we get, the slower our metabolism becomes. Therefore, if you are over 40 and starting your exercise routine, remember that your body will not be able to shed the fat as quickly as you would like. You need to give your body time to adapt to the changes.

Women: Increased belly fat in women has been linked to heart disease, breast cancer, diabetes, gallbladder problems, high blood pressure, and colorectal cancer, so it essential to begin your program slowly and be consistent. There are also hormonal issues involves with increased belly fat, making it even more important to keep your middle in check.

Men: Increased belly fat in men can lead to diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, insulin resistance, and lipid imbalance - high triglycerides and low HDL ("good" cholesterol).

So there is no escape from the fact that you need to be burning belly fat, and a high-impact workout regimen along with a healthier diet are the obvious keys to success. But when you begin your program, start small. Give your body the time it needs to shed the excess belly fat.
